Puerto Rican Family Favorite
How to create my family's favorite go to meal
White Rice
I will be showing you how to make white rice the old fashion way with a caldero. Now a day many people are opting to use a rice maker. Feel free to use a rice maker to save you time making this meal even easier.
Ingredients
• about 2-3 cups of long or Medium grain rice
• oil
• salt
• chicken broth or water
• Measure out about 3 cups of rice
• Rinse rice a couple times with cold water
• In a heavy pot or cardero add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pot; I used about 3 tablespoons on medium heat
• Add rice and stir to coat with oil
• Add liquid, there should be at least ½ inch of liquid above rice; I added about 2-3 cups of chicken broth (Hint: you should be able to stand a spoon in the middle of the pot, if the spoon falls over you have too much liquid)
• Add salt to taste
• Turn setting to medium to medium high and partially cover with lid until the rice has soaked up the liquid (about 15-20 minutes)
• Once the liquid is soaked in by the rice turn the rice and pile into a mound so that it can steam
• Cover on low heat for about 15-20 minutes (keep lid closed to keep stream in the pot to finish cooking the rice)

• Turn rice once more and cover on low for another 5 minutes
• Enjoy!
